Sad Update
Hi guys, This update is going to be a sad one. this past year has been very hard for me. I'm now really really scared of thunderstorms. I can't explain it, but the storms scare me so much that I can't stop shaking and panting and sometimes... and I'm really embarrassed to admit this, but sometimes I go potty on the floor cause I'm so afraid. Mom has tried everything. I'm on something called Prozac to calm me down and I have another medicine which makes me very sleepy I take when the storms hit. Mom calls that medicine Valium and she hates giving it to me. I also have something called a thunder-shirt. It feels a lot like the coat I used to wear as a puppy when I was with my raisers, but it wraps much tighter around my body so I feel safer. I have all of these things, but I'm still just too afraid. This winter, when there were no sthunderstorms, I was afraid to sleep or even go into my crate. Mom didn't know what to do. She eventually called Guide dog school and after talking to some people over there, they all decided that it was best that I retire. Mom is sad and so am I, but she tells me that she wants me to be a happy dog, not a sad dog and I can't do that living here where there are lots of storms. So, when Mom goes to get a new dog I'll come with her and go back to live with my raisers in California. I'm really Excited about that. I love Tiffany and Kim and I know I'll be happy there. I know I'll miss Mom, and you guys won't be able to read about my adventures anymore, but Mom says the new dog will have adventures that you all caan read about. I just wanted to let everyone know what is going on and also tell you that I'll keep updating until it's time for Mom to go back to guide dog school. She has a home interview with her Instructor from guide dog school tomorrow, so I have to show off and be extra awesome at my work when we go for a walk. Well, I think that's it for now, but I just wanted to keep everybody in the loop. Torpy

The Fair, the Pariad and the Bath
Hi guys,
Yesterday, Mom, Auntie Julia and Adam took me to the Minnesota State Fair. I was so happy to come with and get a really good workout in because I hadn't been able to do that in a while. We had to wait a long time for the free bus service to come pick us up, but it wasn't too hot outside and Mom kept giving me water to drink. At one point, she took what was left in the cup and dumped it over my head... sigh. I know she says it's supposed to keep me cool, but really Mom, you know how I hate water.
The bus finally came and I was a good boy, as always. There were lots of people who wanted to pet me, but I just ignored them, even when they did pet me. We got to the Fair and when we got off the bus, there was this big parade coming through the street. We had to get up on the sidewalk and it was really crowded up there. I was scared because there were so many people and I couldn't guide Mom anywhere.
Mom just kept telling me I was a good boy and she kept petting me to keep me calm. I could tell she was a little worried though, because there were lots of people yelling about how they wanted to get out and get moving. The parade ended though and we were abl to move. Both Mom and I were relieved.
After that, I guided Mom through the Fair and we met some of Mom's friends. We walked around and Mom and everybody got lots of good things to eat. Of course I couldn't have any, but Momdid slip me the last bite of her hotdog... yummy! She said it was because I had been such a good boy during the parade. After that, we went and sat own for a rest. Mom kept making sure I had fresh water when I wanted it, and kept making sure I had times to have a bathroom break. When we sat down though, there was all sorts of yummy bits of food on the floor. I kept going after them, and Mom kept correcting me. Sometimes I would stop, but most times I couldn't resist and I ate those little bits. Mom didn't seem too mad though, she said I was practically lying in a taco salad.
We did some more walking and finally made it back to where the bus would pick us up. By that point... I was sooo tired. I just laid down in the parking lot and went to sleep. Mom let me do that, but each time we thought a bus was coming, she made me stand up. She said. I was very dirty from lying in the dusty parking lot and so she said I needed a bath when we got home. I pretended I didn't hear that...
When we got home Mom fed me and then she took me upstairs for a bath. I tried to fight her on getting into the tub by becoming an absolute dead-weight. She couldn't lift me on her own, so she got Auntie Julia to help... damn. Well... she bathed me and so I no longer smelled like the Fair and dirt. I smelled like shampoo and cream-rince conditioner.
I was really sleepy after that and Mom let me nap the rest of the evening. She only woke me up once, to take me to my crate. I fell asleep right away and Mom says she could hear me snoring.
Mom has to go out again today, but she can't bring me with her because the friend's house she's going to has people living there who are alergic to dogs. I wish people didn't have dog alergies. I love people and the friend Mom is seeing today loves me, but can't be around me a lot because of the alergies. Mom has alergies, but not to me... YAY! She's alergic to hay though. She found that out when she went to the Fair on Friday and saw all the animals in the barns. She says her head got stuffed up and her eyes felt like they were burning.
Well, I think I'll end this for now. Mom just got through brushing me... ah I love that and I think I'll go find a nice place to rest.
bye for now,

When Humans Are Sad.
Sometimes... you just have to be a cuddle-bug.
Mom and i were out working today when the people who had interviewed Mom the day before called her back. She said they didn't give her the job. Mom's been sad all evening. She's kind of angry too because she says she thinks it might have been an issue of accommidation. Mom says that means that they didn't want to do the extra work they needed to do so she could do the job cause she's blind. Haven't they ever heard of extra work before? I do extra work for Mom all the time... sheesh.
Anyway, Mom has been down all afternoon and I've just been next to her, letting her pet and snuggle me. She says I have magic lab fur. She says it's softer than any other lab fur she's ever petted. I don't know where I got it, but all of my sisters had it too. One of my sisters, Trisha, who was at guide dog school with me had the same color fur and everything, but she was smaller than me. Anyway, Mom's been petting me a lot and of course I love that. Maybe we'll find another place that wants to do extra work for Mom without it being a problem. Of course Mom can't prove that was the true reason she didn't get picked for the job, but she think's it's very likely because of places only wanting people that can do the work right away without any help.
She says we'll keep looking and in the meantime, we're moving back into the house we lived in before very soon. Mom and I are both so excited about the move. We've missed it so much... YAY!
Well, I'm sleepy, so i think I'll go for one last bathroom break and then find my crate and blanky and curl up in it.
night all, and keep good thoughts coming for Mom, I don't like to see her sad.

The Cabin and Mom's job interview
Hi Guys,
Wow what a week I've had! Member last time, how I told you I was going to the cabin with Mom? Well we went last week and just got back this past Sunday. When we drove up there, I couldn't ride with Mom in the same car. I did not like that, cause I'm always with her and it made me nervous. I watched her as she drove away with Auntie Julia. I still kept looking for her, but I settled down once I figured out that my other human, Adam, and Mom's mom, Katie, were taking care of me. I know them and so I felt safe, but I still missed Mom.
Mom said she couldn't take me in her car because she and Auntie Julia had to take my little brother Romeo. Auntie Julia adopted him last fall. He's a miniature dachhound and he's got long red fur. He and I get along well. I was very good about not barking before he came along though, and now, I'm not. Hey... if he barks at something, I wanna know what he's barking at. Mom doesn't like it and so now, we both have those horrid bark collars... eww!
Anyway, we got to the cabin and had lots of fun. I got to smell all the new animal smells and Mom took me for walks in the woods. On one of the days, Mom took me down to the lake. I had an idea that she wanted to give me a bath because I saw the shampoo bottle come out, so when I was standing on the dock, I jumped right in the water. Mom hadn't been expecting it, but she gave me praise because I was being good.
I didn't like the water and I'd forgotten how to swim, but Mom was very patient with me and I remembered how after about a minute.
I swam around a little bit so I could get wet and then Mom gave me a bath. She says I was better behaived during this bath than others I've had. I don't know why she thought that, maybe because there were fishes in the lake I could watch.
after she'd gotten my fur all sudzy, I swam around again to let it rince out and then I was done.
Mom took me up to the cabin and I had to stay outside on the porch while I dried off. I did not like that at all. I barked a lot to let everyone know I was mad. I also really... really had to pee, but no one was paying attention, and so I peed a little bit on the floor. I know, it's a huge no-no in my house too, but I just couldn't hold it anymore. Auntie Julia took me out right away and I went out there. Everyone felt bad that they hadn't been paying attention to me, and so no one yelled at me... sigh... I wish humans understood us sometimes.
After that day, Mom's brother Peter, came up with his girlfriend, Megan, and her sister, Nicole. Mom's niece zoe came with too and so the house was crowded. They also had three other other dogs with them. Pete and Megan own two dogs named Cash and Carter. They're both mutts, and much younger than me, but they like to play and so do i. Megan's sister Nicole owns a Boston Tarier named Bass, and he and Romeo played, cause they're the same size. We all had fun playing with each other.
The morning after they came up, another dog came into the yard. None of us had ever seen him before, but I got excited because I knew he was another yellow lab like me. He was this really dark red color, darker than me and he was nice. None of Mom's family knew who he belonged to, but he had a name and number on his tags. His name was Firestoker and Mom's brother called the number on his tag. They found the owners and took him back home.
I would never want to run away from my home like that. I'd miss my mom too much, but I guess he liked to run away. Mom says it's because he wasn't "Fixed" She says it means he can have puppies with a girl dog. Mom says I can't. She says I got fixed when I was seven weeks old. I don't remember that, cause it sounds weird, if not painful.
Anyway, we had to leave the cabin the next day, and again... I couldn't ride back with Mom. Romeo whined a ton before we left and I couldn't figure out why. Was he excited about the car ride? I know i was. I love car-rides. Was he afraid we would leave him? Come on... they'd never do that. I don't know what it was, but I was calm and just went with whatever Mom had to do. I missed Mom on the ride home though, but Katie said I was good and that I stayed quiet. Of course I did... I, unlike Romeo, have class... Ha-Ha!
Anyway, after we got home, Mom started telling me about this thing she had to go to today called a job interview. We went this morning and for the most part, it was really boring, at least for me. Oh sure there are all sorts of new smells to investigate, but when I'm working of course I can't smell them... nooo! All I got to do wwas lie there while Mom talked to a bunch of people. I know, I was being good, but it was boring. I do hope Mom gets the job though, cause then we'll have somewhere to go everyday.
Well, we're home from the interview now, and I think I'll end this for now. I think it's nap time for Mom and me... we've had a long day today. I'll update more soon.

Stuff I forgot last night
Hi Guys,
I forgot to tell you about where we're going next week. We're going to this great place called the cabin. It's Mom's Grandma's cabin. It's far from our house and is by a lake. I love it up there. I get to smell all the new smells and there are lots of smells I don't usually get to sniff around the house. Mom loves it up there, but here's the weird thing that she likes to do. She likes to swim. I hate swimming. I don't like water at all, as most of you know. Mom says I'm a weird dog because I'm a lab and I'm supposed to like water, but I just don't. She tries to take me into the lake when we're up there, but I always fight her... I hate it. She's persistant though and usually gets me in. She doesn't take me above my head though and I feel ok with that, but guess why she wants to take me in the water? She wants to give me a bath... BOOO! I hate baths so it's twice the insult. First the water, then the bath.
One time, I was getting a bath and I got all soapy. Mom didn't know how to best get me into the lake, so auntie Julia picked me up as best as she could and threw me in!
I was so scared and I splashed around for a few minutes, but then I calmed down. that was the day Marlin taught me how to swim. I just watched him and saw how he swam and then I copied him. I wish he was here to teach me again... I miss my big brother and so does Mom.
I hope she doesn't take me into the water this time, but if she does, I'll be a good boy and not try to run away... I mean I'll try to try.
Other than the water, I love being with Mom at the cabin. She says she's gonna get me some special treats so I can have good things to eat up there. I love car rides and we get to go on one when we leave next Monday yay yay yay!
I'll tell you all about the cabin when we get back. For now, it's almost time for dinner... even bigger yay!

Toys and the cabin
Hi Guys,
Mom got me the greatest toy ever! Member how I said she got me this toy called a Bob-A-Lot? Well I got it and I've been playing with it and it's the best ever. It's this big round thing that is heavy on the bottom and so it rolls around, but here's the great thing, it spills out food! Mom puts my dinner or breakfast in it and the food comes out. I just love it. When I first got it I figured out how to unscrew the top part and try to get at the food that way, but mom keeps stopping me cause she doesn't want me to break it. I still try to unscrew the top though, cause I'm a very smart dog.
Today, we went to Starbucks, by the house we're moving back into soon. Mom had a meeting with a nice lady named Caitlin. She's going to help Mom find work. they talked while I enjoyed the cool floor... and the crumbs from Mom's blueberry muffin. I just laid there and watched people come in and go out. Lots of them looked at me and tried to talk to me and pet me, but I ignored them because I'm just like that in harness. Mom says I'm aloof... what ever that means. i only stood up twice, when I saw Grandma, Mom's mom, walk by and when I saw Adam, my other human, come over to get Mom.
I hope Mom can find work soon because I really like getting out of the house and I know Mom does too. After we got home I just rested until it was time for dinner and then I let Mom know, loud and clear, that it was time to eat.
I'm really into barking for food now. Mom doesn't like it and when ever I bark she puts this terrible thing called a bark collar on me. It's the worst thing because when I bark, it sprays me in the face with this gross smelling stuff. Mom calls it citronella and she says it just smells like a mix of oranges and lemons but it's nasty to me... ick! So... I don't bark when it's on... I whine instead... hee hee! No wonder Mom calls me a Stinker.
Anyway, after dinner, mom and I watched the baseball game on the couch and then we went off to bed. I'm getting very sleepy now though, so I think 'll go, but you guys had to hear about my toy.
I'll be back soon.

I'm Baaack!
Hi you guys,
I know it's been forever since I updated, but lots of things happened to me and Mom and so I couldn't write for a long time. Mom was living in her house with auntie Julia like before, but then, in the middle of the summer of 2008, Mom's dad said they had to leave and take care of Mom's mom, Grandma. Mom's dad, Grandpa, was leaving Grandma and moving into their house and so we had to go live with Grandma and my brother Marlin.
It was ok, but Mom was very sad. I remember she cried a lot and I had to give her lots of cuddles. She also talked on the phone to this guy she knew named Adam. I wanted to meet him cause he sounded nice. Anyway, Mom and me and Auntie Julia lived at their parents' house for a long time and Mom was very sad. I tried to play with my brother Marlin to make me feel better, but he didn't want to play anymore the longer it went into Fall. Mom thought it was just because he was getting old, but in the winter, we found out he had cancer on his throat. He was in a lot of pain and didn't want to play anymore.
Mom talked a lot to her vet and they decided to give him medicine to make him feel better, but not to give him medicine to make the cancer better, because they said they didn't want him to suffer. He was happy for a while and wasn't in pain anymore, but then, in the early spring of 2009, Mom saw that the tumor on his neck was infected and leaking some bad smelling stuff.
The week she noticed it was a busy week for me. Remember that guy Mom had been on the phone with? Well she had gone to see him and she couldn't take me with her because he had loose dogs on his property and she didn't want me to get hurt. I was sad when she left because I always go with Mom, and when she got back I was mad at her for a day. I got to meet the guy though. His name is Adam and I love him! He cuddles with me and talks to me and gives me all the pets and treats I could want. Mom loves him too and he's living up here now, but back to when I first met him...
He was here when Mom noticed the bad infection with my brother Marlin. She and Grandma took him to the vet and they decided it was time to put him to sleep. I think he was happy for the pain to go away, and happy to get this huge cone off his neck. He had been sad about that all week and Mom hated seeing it on him. On Friday, March 20th of 2009, we all got into the car and drove to the vet's office. Mom, Marlin, Auntie Julia and Grandma all went into a little room. I stayed outside with Adam, but I was really sad because everyone else was. I just looked up at him and whimpered a lot... I think sometimes it would be nice to use words.
Mom was very sad for a while after that. I remember she cried a lot and hugged me a lot. I miss my brother Marlin, but I'm glad Mom let me sniff him after he'd died, because then I didn't wonder where he was and why he wasn't coming back.
Things have slowly gotten better for Mom and me. We went to work last summer at a hospital. Mom did research for the hospital and wrote a lot. Mom's coworkers all loved me and they said I was their office Mascot. We both liked the work and were very sorry to see the job end, but everyone has been saying that the Economy is bad... whatever that means. Hey, as long as I get food, I'm happy.
Earlier this Spring, my leg started to hurt me. Mom had to figure out what it was but we found out that I had some weak muscles on my back left leg. I had to go back to physical therapy to fix it, but I was so happy to see Dr. Julia and Jenny again. They worked with my leg to fix it and now I feel much better.
Well like I said before Mom's boyfriend, my other human, Adam, moved up here and he lives here now. I love it that he's here cause he makes Mom very happy and me happy too. Mom just had a talk with her parents a couple of weeks ago and guess what? They've all decided that Mom, Adam, Auntie Julia and me can all move back into the house we lived in before! I'm so happy about that and so is Mom. We can't wait for that. I'll have my room and my crate and my potty spot back. I haven't changed much, but there is this one thing... Well... I'm really scared of thunderstorms. i try to hide behind Mom when they start and I whine and pant a lot. Mom puts me in my crate with a blanket thrown over it when they come and I like that. She also bought me a new toy called a Bob-A-Lot and I love it. You push it around and food comes out, it's great
Well, that's what's happened with me and Mom, and I'll try to update more, but right now there's a thunderstorm coming so I wanna take cover.
bye for now... EEEp!

PT update
Hi Everybody, *yawn*
Sorry I've been away so long. This physical therapy thing has taken a lot out of me. I just want to sleep all day long and Mom has even had a hard time trying to get me to come downstairs for breakfast and dinner sometimes. She can usually do it, if I hear the food going into my dish, but it's hard.
A couple of weeks ago, Mom noticed that I was hiding in my crate all of the time and the Dr. Julia put me on a pain medicine so I'd feel better. It took a little while for the medicine to kick in, but I am feeling better now.
I like the people at PT. The assistant is named Jenny and she's really nice to me. Both she and Dr. Julia cheer me on when I have to run on the water tredmil and they give me yummy liver treats. After that, they dry me off and put me on this wobbly board and I really don't like that. One of the nice things though, is that Dr. Julia does something with a pressure gun called kyropractic and it makes my back feel loads better. I was in a lot of pain yesterday because Dr. Julia said my pelvis was tilted because I'd been putting too much pressure on my back to compensate for my weak knee, and when she did the kyropractic, I felt sooo much better!
Mom was sad about me being in pain, and she says she misses me when I was bouncy, but I just can't explain to her how darn tired I am. She should know too. I mean, she had physical therapy too. Anyhoo, it's a beautiful day out today. The sun is out and it's nearly 80 degrees. Mom would have loved to take me on a walk, but my leg can't take it.
Mom says I'm getting lots better, and that I probably won't have to have surgery. She doesn't want me to have it because I would have to probably be sent back to guide dog school so they could do it, but neither Mom nor I would want that. Well, I think it's time for another nap now. Mom is being very nice to me and is letting me use her bed. Anyway, I'll try to write more when I'm more perked up.
Bye for now you guys,

My PT Adventures
Hi everybody,
I promised you an update about my physical therapy and so, now that Mom is off the computer, here it is.
Last week, Mom took me to the vet's office and she examined me. She said I was protecting my weak leg and that I would need therapy to help it grow stronger, so yesterday was my first appointment. We went in, and I had to get into this long box with a tredmill on it. I knew what that was, and at first, I was happy. I've walked on Tredmills before and know how to do it, but never with watter around them. I didn't like the water at all, and I kept trying to get out to where Mom was. She stood in front of me and told me what a good boy I was. I just kept walking on the tredmill, and Dr. Julia kept trying to give me treats, but I was too stressed to take them.
After a while, the tredmill stopped moving and they turned on these loud jets which made the water bubble. I wasn't so scared anymore, and I took treats from Mom and Dr. Julia. Finally, after a long time, they let me out of the long box and I shook off. They dried me with towels and then put my front half on a ball. I was scared and tried to climb over the ball, but Mom was there and she wouldn't let me. She held my head and told me I was a good boy in a calm voice. I got less scared after that. Dr. Julia made me stretch my back legs out while I rested on the ball, but only fir a little bit and then I was done. After that, Dr. Julia did some kyropractic something on my back and neck, and I felt much better. My back didn't hurt anymore and after we were done with PT I slept a lot the rest of that day.
I go back on Friday for more Mom says and she also says I'll get used to it, but I don't know. I don't like water and the jets scare me, but Mom says this is how they'll make my leg all better and I believe her.
Tomorrow, Mom and I are going to speak at a school with lots of kids. We like doing that a lot, and I like all of the little kids. Well, I'll end this entry for now, but I liked telling you all about my PT stuff. I'll write again tomorrow and tell you about the adventure at the school.
bye for now everybody,

surprises
hi everybody,I've got some new things to tell you all about. Last Thursday, Mom had her last day at Physical Therapy. It was sad to say good bye to Catie, but it was fun to see her when we had the chance. Mom says she still has to do her exercises everyday, and Catie said Mom could call her if she needed anything. Mom is really happy though, that her knee is feeling much better.
This Tuesday, my brother Marlin and I both went to the vet. Marlin needed his kennel-cough shot and I have a rash on my tummy, so we went. I love the doctors there. They are always so nice to me and they give me treats and kisses and lots of pets. That day, we saw Dr. Jen. She's a very nice lady and she was gentle when she looked at us. Anyway, she was lifting my left back leg and I felt my knee-cap pop out again. It's been doing that for a while now, but in true lab fashion, I haven't let on that I've been bothered. Mom noticed something in July and I had my hips x-rayed. The x-rays came back fine then, and the orthopeedic vet who looked at me didn't find anything, but now, Dr. Jen is able to make my knee-cap pop in and out of place. She called it, a Luxating Platella.
After she told Mom what it was, they talked about me needing to have surgery. I could tell Mom was kind of worried, so I went over to her, and she gave me a hug. Jen said that Mom could talk to their orthopeedic specalist about the surgery and so she did. I wouldn't be able to do anything for two whole months andMom doesn't want that to happen.
When we got home from the vet, Mom called Guide Dogs for the Blind, and talked to a great vet there. They decided to try physical therapy before surgery, and so now Mom says that on Tuesday, we get to go to a place where another vet is to see what she has to say. Mom told me that there is lots of stuff there that could help make me feel better. I hope their is. Mom wants to do the best thing for me, and I still want to keep working for Mom so I hope this helps.
It's supposed to be cold tomorrow, but Mom and I have to get up and take the bus into Highland to go to Mom's hair-cut appointment. Mom is excited about going on the bus again, even if it is very cold out. I'm excited too because I just love taking the bus, even in winter, and even when I sit on the wet floor and my but and legs get all dirty and wet, ick!
I'll let you all know how my appointment goes next week, and about our adventures tomorrow, but right now I'm tired and I'm going to sleep now.

What a Weekend
Hi again everyone.
Mom and I had quite a weekend. I wanted to write about it before now, but Mom wasn't feeling well yesterday and she had to fix something wrong with her screen-reader too so I couldn't until now. Hmm, that seems to happen a lot. Anyhoo, Mom and I went out to lunch with her friends on Saturday and I was a good boy when we were out. I was happy to get out because we had been cooped up for most of the week because it was cold. Saturday was warm and so we got to go outside for longer than five minutes.
After we'd gone to lunch we went to Mom's friend's house and played with the kittens that were there. I didn't like it when one of the kittens would play with my tail, but I was good and didn't bark. I did bark when the little pug dog who lives there kept jumping at me and running under my legs. Auntie Julia wanted to know why I kept barking at him and Mom said I was just telling him that I didn't like what he was doing and that I thought it wasn't polite. Mom was right, that's what I was telling him.
After that, Mom thought I could use a break from being in harness and so she took me home, fed me my dinner and then left to go have dinner while I rested. I got up on the couch like I usually do and slept with the TV on. Mom and Auntie Julia came home a few hours later and after Mom took me out for one final bathroom break, we went to bed.
The next day, Mom, Auntie Julia and their friend Jackie and I all went to a place called the Global Market in Up Town. It was fun, and I had fun sniffing all of the smells, but Mom didn't like that I was getting so distracted and not working. She pulled out my Gentle Leader and put it on me. I got sad that she'd done that, but after I'd calmed down, she took it off.
I had a great time guiding Mom around the market, but she and Auntie Julia both got upset when people tried to pet me without Mom knowing. I just ignored them like I always do and Mom was proud of me. After the long day at the market, we went home. Mom fed me and I rested while Mom and Auntie Julia went out again. It was a busy weekend and I loved every minute of it.
I can't wait until it gets warmer though, cause Mom and I are tired of the cold.

random doggy days
Hi everybody,
I'm sorry I haven't updated, but thinkgs have been really busy around here. Mom and I have still been going to PT a couple of times a week and I like that. Mom is still looking for a job, and she hopes that a job she interviewed for will work out.
The really interesting thing happened last week though. I meant to write about it before now, but I didn't have the time and Mom wouldn't let me near the computer either. Anyway, Mom's friend Dena went on vacation to Mexico and so she couldn't take her guide dog, Kaylor, with her. Mom and Auntie Julia said that they would take care of him while Dena and her family were gon so last week Kaylor came over.
We had a great time playing, and we got to play tug a lot with this great toy Kaylor had. The toy squeaked and I could even chew on it and pull on it. Mom says it's an awesome toy because it is almost indestructable. i loved playing with it, especially with Kaylor.
We went over to Mom's parents' house and Marlin, Kaylor and I all played together. I liked it most of the time, but sometimes, Kaylor and Marlin would pick on me and I would yelp so they would stop biting my ears. Mom made them stop playing so rough with me, and so they just wrestled by themselves. It was nice having another dog around for a week, and i hope we can do it again another time.
It is so cold outside, and Mom wants it to be spring. I want it to be spring too, so I can lie outside in the sun on the front steps. Mom promised me a raw meaty bone when it gets warmer outside, and I can hardly wait. Last night, Mom gave me a chicken neck her dad had saved from the roast chicken they'd eaten and I loved it. Mom gave it to me and I ate it in about 9 seconds, mmmmm I love chicken necks!
Last weekend, Mom got very sick with a sore throat. On Friday, she went to the doctor, and they said she had something called Strep Throat. I don't know what that means, but she was sick all weekend and just wanted to rest a lot. I was nice and snuggled with her. I love snuggling with Mom, and I know she loves to snuggle with me when she's sick. I think she's feeling better today though, cause she got up and did her laundry this morning.
Well, I think that's all I've got to say for now. I'm glad Mom finally let me update this blog, and so now my tens of fans can read it.
bye for now, but I'll be back soon,
woof woof!

I'm glad Mom finally let me update this blog, and so now my tens of fans can read it.
bye for now, but I'll be back soon,

working today
Hi guys,
today Mom got me up early so we could go to another physical therapy appointment. It was very cold last weekend and Mom only let me work for little bits especially on Saturday when it was the coldest, but the past few days have been warmer and so Mom has let me work more. I liked going to PT with Mom and I liked seeing Katy again. I was a good boy and I rested by the exercise bike Mom was working on.
When we were leaving the building after Mom was done, I heard a car behind us and I started to pull Mom out of the parkinglot and onto the curb. Mom gave me lots of pets and praise for that because she hadn't heard the car very well. She says I'm a good guide dog. I just love doing my job.
On Friday Mom has one more PT appointment and then we get to go see our friend Dena and my buddy Kaylor. I wonder if we're going to walk around a lot. I hope we can go to the mall and get a good walk in. Mom says her knee could use it and she says I could use it too. Well, it's late and I'm tired, so I think I'll slip off to
bed now. I'll write back soon though.

An Interesting Morning
Hi all,
Mom and I had a very interesting morning. We got up early and after Mom had fed and relieved me, we left to go somewhere. Mom said we were going to go to a physical therapy appointment for her. See, she fell outside last winter and hurt her knee badly. She did everything the doctor told her to do, and so she couldn't understand why her knee kept hurting. The doctor said she needed therapy to make her knee better so we were going to start that today.
It was very very cold today, only 8 above zero Mom said and so she let me walk as fast as I could without running to get inside. The cold weather makes Mom cough cause she has asthma. I got her inside though and we waited for her physical therapist to come out and get her.
Mom's therapist was named Katy and she loved me. She petted me and talked to me after Mom had given permition. I loved getting petted, but after a while, Mom said enough and made me lie down and rest by a chair while Katy looked at her knee. She made Mom lie back and do some lifting exercises and after a few minutes, I got up to check on Mom, to see what was going on.
After a while, we left the little room we were in and went into this big room with all of these machines. I didn't know what a lot of them were for, but one of them I knew. I saw a tredmill and I wanted to go on it. At guide dog school, my trainers taught me how to pull into my harness by having me walk on a tredmill. I always thought that was fun, and I wanted to do it again. Mom and Katy had a good laugh.
While Mom worked on a bike, I went and sat down in front of the bike as Katy's assistant petted me. Mom was glad someone was keeping me busy and the other lady was also very very nice.
After the bike, Mom was done and so we left. Mom's knee hurt after all of that, so she had me walk a little slower than normal, which wasn't great today cause it was soooo cold! Finally though, we got home and Mom and I took a long nap together.
Well, I'm getting tired, and I want to snuggle up in my blankets in my crate, so I'm going to end this now, but it was a very interesting day. We get to go back again next Tuesday and I can't wait to see what else they do to help Mom. Thanks for reading everyone and have a warm weekend.

the day so far
Hi everyone,
The day so far hasn't been anything special. Mom got me up late after talking on the phone to her friend Dena and then she took me out and gave me breakfast. I think we're supposed to go out later today. Mom told her friend that she has a hair cut appointment later this afternoon, and I think we're supposed to go to the store. Later tonight though, we're supposed to go over to see friends of Mom and Auntie Julia. I like these friends a lot. The man is named Tim and the woman is named Val and Tim plays with me a lot. He has these towels that I get to tug on and I love playing with him.
I hope we can do something soon because I'm bored and I want to work. I think that's it for now. Maybe Mom will let me write later on today. Thanks for reading everybody.

more on me
Hi all,
I know it's now been a really really long time since I was here last, but Mom and I were not only busy iwhth Christmas and all of that, but we had been having some issues last week and Mom wanted to work them out before she let me write on the computer.
She had been very sick with a cold last week and so Auntie Julia had begun to take me out all of the time and feed me too, and so I started thinking of her as my pack leader. Auntie Julia didn't mean for that to happen and neither did Mom, but it started to and so Mom had to figure it out first because it was making her sad, me wanting to be with Auntie Julia all of the time. After we figured it out, and after Mom started taking me out and feeding me all of the time, I realized again that she was my pack leader and it was business as usual once again.
Thanks Giving was good, and I got to see lots of my other family, like Mom's aunts and uncles and her parents and the like. Just after that holiday, we got our first snowstorm. I had fun playing in the snow with Marlin, and it kept snowing and snowing. About a week later, Mom threw a Christmas party. I had meant to blog about that, because I had done something very bad.
My friends Dena and Jason came over and Dena brought my buddy Kaylor, her golden retriever guide dog. Well, cause there were lots of people at the party, Mom and Dena decided that it would be a good idea to put both me and Kaylor in Mom's room. Well, they could hear us playing up there, but what they didn't realize was that I was insecure about my territory, and so to solve this insecurity, I peed all around Mom's room. I made sure to only pee on the wooden floor, and not the rug, but I just wanted to let Kaylor know that this was my room.
Mom didn't get mad at me though, cause she found out about it after I'd done it already, but she cleaned it up and said next time she'd put me in my crate so I wouldn't be tempted to do that again.
Christmas was good. I got to see all of my family again and after Christmas I got to see my buddy Kelton one last time. Mom and I are done with computer training and so I won't see Kelton and Debbie as much anymore, but I'm glad Mom learned a lot. I'm going to try to update more, and since things are great between me and Mom again I think she'll let me write more too. I'm sorry Bosco, I didn't get back to you until now, I haven't forgotten about you and I still read your blog. I hope Mom and I can have more working adventures to tell you about soon, cause she and I are both bored and we want to get out and work, but it supposed to get cold and snowy again tonight and tomorrow and so that kind of prevents us from going on a good walk. Anyway, maybe Mom will take me to the mall soon. The Megga-mall is great for walking in because there are lots of distractions and people and it's huge, so I get lots of exercise. Well, I hope you all enjoyed my update, and I promise to update more.

lots of stuff
Hi everyone,
I'm sorry it has been so long since I updated, but lots has been going on with Mom lately. She still looking for a job, and we go see her job coach guy a lot, and we still get to have computer training with Debbie and Kelton, but about two weeks ago Mom's knee started to hurt. She had sprained it last winter and it all of a sudden started hurting again. She went to see a special doctor and he had to do a special test to see what was wrong. She called the test an MRI, what ever that is, and I couldn't come with her to take the test. I stayed home with Auntie Julia and watched her clean the house. I got scared of the vacume and I hid in my crate. I hate that loud vacume, it's loud and it chases me! WOOF WOOF!
Anyway, after this special test Mom and I went to down town St. Paul this past Monday and she talked to the doctor. I did a great job of finding the elivators while we were out and Mom told me what a great boy I was. Anyway, the doctor said that she needed to have some physical therapy to help her knee, and so we'll have to go to that, and she has to keep her knee wrapped up in this thinggie he gave her. So, that's what we've been doing all month long.
Tonight, Mom gave me a bath, BOOOOOO! I hate baths, but I was good Mom said, and I climbed right into the tub and let Mom wash me. She says it's for a day called Thanks Giving which we're going to tomorrow at her parents' house. We were over there this afternoon, and while Mom did lots of chopping of stuff, Marlin and I had to stay tied because someone I didn't know was cleaning the carpets. Anyway, Mom says I'll smell good for tomorrow and I'll feel very soft. I know she'll brush me tomorrow and make sure I look pretty. I love getting brushed. Well, I'm glad to update and I'll be sure to tell all of you guys how the day goes tomorrow. Just after Mom and I came home from Guide Dog school, it was Thanks Giving, and I had to stay on leash with Mom all of the time. Well, anyway, she was walking by the dining room table and I jumped up onto it and just stood there. Hey... it was clear and I thought it was a grooming bench... wouldn't everybody?
I'll write more soon everybody,

Yesterday and Today
Hi everybody!
Yesterday was so great! Mom gave me tons of treats, like raw venison midallions, tins of deserts with apple and carrot in them, and freeze-dried liver treats. She said it was because yesterday was my birthday. She said I turned 4 yesterday and she sang happy birthday to me. Well, lots of people ended up singing happy birthday to me, and I loved it. It was also the day that Mom and I met for the first time at Guide Dog school.
I remember getting a bath from my trainers that morning, and then they brushed me, and then I had to stay in my kennel all day and I couldn't go to work with any of the trainers. After hanging around my kennel all afternoon, I was brought into a building with tons of new smells. I could smell other dogs and lots of other people, and I was put into this little room in an office. The room I was in had a bed in it, but it was a bed for people, and I wasn't allowed on it.
I waited in there for a little bit while Jeff, the instructor who had walked me up from the kennels went somewhere. I perked up my ears when I heard him come back, and I could smell someone else with him. He was talking to someone and then I heard Mom's voice for the first time. Jeff asked her if she was ready to meet me and she said yes, and then he came back into the little room and got me. He led me out and I stood by Mom while she talked to me. I was my aloof self even then, and just stood there as she petted me.
She told Jeff how soft my fur was, and that she liked how dark I was. He told her who my parents were, and who my sisters were, and that I was the only boy in my lidder. She asked when my birthday was, and he looked at the sheet of paper he had with him and said, that it was that same day. They both said happy birthday to me, and then Mom took me on her new leash and went to her room.
I can't believe it has been two years since that day. I love my home, and my job, and my Auntie Julia, and my big brother Marlin, and especially my Mom. I hope we have many more adventures together. On saturday evening we're going to a very nice restaurant to celebrate Mom graduating from college. We were supposed to do it last spring, but because Mom's grandma died suddenly, things just got put on hold. Mom says she has to brush me, and make sure I'm very very handsome. I'll bet she's going to put some stinky dry shampoo on my fur. She says it smells good, but meh, I think it isn't anything special. At least she gets to brush me... I love that.
Well, night all, Mom just gave me freeze-dried liver treats stuffed into a ball and I'm tired from working to get them out. I'm gonna go to sleep for now.

Adventures at the Mall Of America
Hi all,
I meant to blog about this earlier, but after we got home from our adventures, I was so tired that I couldn't do anything but sleep. I think I woke up once later that night to relieve, but that was it.
Anyway, Mom, Auntie Julia and I went out to the Megga Mall with my buddy Kaylor and Dena. Kaylor and I were so excited to get out cause it had been raining for the past week and we hadn't been able to have a decent walk. We loved working in the mall, and we got a lot of comments as we passed by. Mom and Dena got annoied at some of the people who just assumed that we could be petted, even though it was clear we were actually guiding our moms around. We also had some trouble in a restaurant with idiot waiters who didn't understand how to interact with blind people. Also, a kid who looked to Auntie Julia like he was twelve kept whistling at Kaylor whenever he passed by our table. Finally, Dena caught him and told him to quit it.
After we had eaten, we asked to talk to the manager of the restaurant, and when we talked to him, he blew off our concerns. We decided that we would no longer eat there when we came back.
After we had left the restaurant, we went to a book store and Mom got a new book. When she was paying for it, the casheer asked her if, because she was blind, if she prayed for sight. Mom couldn't believe at first what she was hearing, but she just said that she considers her blindness a gift sometimes, and then she grabbed her book and I took her to the exit as fast as I could. After that, we left, but were still hasseled by other people in the mall. I don't understand why people want to touch me all the time when I'm working. I just ignore them and remain my aloof self, but it bugs Mom and I get why.
Once we'd left the Mall we went back to the Barns N Noble in Eagan and hung out there for a while. Kaylor and I got to rest while Auntie Julia and Dena did work for a class project Auntie Julia needed to work on. I helped Mom find another book after a while, and I helped her find the bathroom and get a huge glass of ice water. We were planning to leave at five and go back home, but Dena's husband, Jason, asked us if we wanted to come out for dinner with them instead. We went out for dinner and it was good, but by the end of it both Kaylor and I were tired, and restless from being in harness so long. Mom took me home, and fed me and I went to sleep right away. The day was long and tiring, but very fun in the end.

Hi all,
sorry I haven't updated in a little while. I meant to, but Mom was too tired late in the evenings to let me blog and she always kept turning the computer off when I was just about to start writing. Anyway, now I'm writing again and I'm going to tell you some stuff I wanted to tell you about last week, but never got around too... thanks Mom!
Last Thursday, Mom, Auntie Julia and I went down town to meet our friend Emily for lunch at this restaurant called The News Room. I don't know myself if it's good, but Mom says it's awesome. Anyway, my favorite part was when we got to take the Lite-rail. Mom loves it because it helps her get to where ever she needs to go, and I love it cause I get to go for a ride! OOOh, I get so excited when I see that thing! My ears go up and I shift on my feet to get a better look at the train that's either pulling in or out of the station. Sometimes, I get corrected by Mom because I pull too hard in harness when we're approaching the platform, but I've learned to be better about stuff like that.
Anyway, I loved riding the train, and when we got off we started walking to where we were going to meet Emily. I love working down town. There are lots of things and people for me to guide Mom around and I like being so focused. As we were walking, a dog who wasn't on a leash came up to us. Mom kept trying to get me to just walk away cause she didn't know the dog, and I tried to walk away, but he kept following us. He was friendly, and just wanted to say hi, but Mom was kind of scared because she didn't know what the dog would do. Finally, a man came over and held the dog so we could walk away.
I was good in the restaurant and I just laid down and rested while Mom and the others ate their lunch. After that, we were walking back to catch the train, and some guy came up and hugged me, right on the corner of a busy intersection. Mom told him that he had to stop petting me and he did. I just ignored him. Mom says I'm aloof most of the time with strangers, but I'm ultra-aloof in harness she says. Auntie Julia said later that the guy was homeless and probably mentally ill. He's homeless... hmm, I hope he finds a good home soon.
I love my house. It has a soft blanky inside that I've had since I was a baby when I lived with Tifany, and it has a door which Mom only closes at night. She says I have a tendency to wander around and so she wants me to stay in one spot. Anyway, my home is warm and comfy, and I hope everyone can have one.
On Friday, we went to training again, and Mom found out her scanner doesn't work. On Tuesday we're going in for more computer training, and we'll find out about the scanner then.
Mom still has to take me to the vet for that kennel cough shot, and though I'm glad she's been too busy and has been putting it off, I know eventually she'll get around to it... damn!
Well, I think I've typed myself out for now, but I loved getting this chance to steal Mom's new computer for a little while. It works great and doesn't get burning hot like her last one.
sorry I haven't updated in a little while.
