PT update

Hi Everybody, *yawn*
Sorry I've been away so long. This physical therapy thing has taken a lot out of me. I just want to sleep all day long and Mom has even had a hard time trying to get me to come downstairs for breakfast and dinner sometimes. She can usually do it, if I hear the food going into my dish, but it's hard.
A couple of weeks ago, Mom noticed that I was hiding in my crate all of the time and the Dr. Julia put me on a pain medicine so I'd feel better. It took a little while for the medicine to kick in, but I am feeling better now.
I like the people at PT. The assistant is named Jenny and she's really nice to me. Both she and Dr. Julia cheer me on when I have to run on the water tredmil and they give me yummy liver treats. After that, they dry me off and put me on this wobbly board and I really don't like that. One of the nice things though, is that Dr. Julia does something with a pressure gun called kyropractic and it makes my back feel loads better. I was in a lot of pain yesterday because Dr. Julia said my pelvis was tilted because I'd been putting too much pressure on my back to compensate for my weak knee, and when she did the kyropractic, I felt sooo much better!
Mom was sad about me being in pain, and she says she misses me when I was bouncy, but I just can't explain to her how darn tired I am. She should know too. I mean, she had physical therapy too. Anyhoo, it's a beautiful day out today. The sun is out and it's nearly 80 degrees. Mom would have loved to take me on a walk, but my leg can't take it.
Mom says I'm getting lots better, and that I probably won't have to have surgery. She doesn't want me to have it because I would have to probably be sent back to guide dog school so they could do it, but neither Mom nor I would want that. Well, I think it's time for another nap now. Mom is being very nice to me and is letting me use her bed. Anyway, I'll try to write more when I'm more perked up.
Bye for now you guys,
the tired Torpedo

My PT Adventures

Hi everybody,
I promised you an update about my physical therapy and so, now that Mom is off the computer, here it is.
Last week, Mom took me to the vet's office and she examined me. She said I was protecting my weak leg and that I would need therapy to help it grow stronger, so yesterday was my first appointment. We went in, and I had to get into this long box with a tredmill on it. I knew what that was, and at first, I was happy. I've walked on Tredmills before and know how to do it, but never with watter around them. I didn't like the water at all, and I kept trying to get out to where Mom was. She stood in front of me and told me what a good boy I was. I just kept walking on the tredmill, and Dr. Julia kept trying to give me treats, but I was too stressed to take them.
After a while, the tredmill stopped moving and they turned on these loud jets which made the water bubble. I wasn't so scared anymore, and I took treats from Mom and Dr. Julia. Finally, after a long time, they let me out of the long box and I shook off. They dried me with towels and then put my front half on a ball. I was scared and tried to climb over the ball, but Mom was there and she wouldn't let me. She held my head and told me I was a good boy in a calm voice. I got less scared after that. Dr. Julia made me stretch my back legs out while I rested on the ball, but only fir a little bit and then I was done. After that, Dr. Julia did some kyropractic something on my back and neck, and I felt much better. My back didn't hurt anymore and after we were done with PT I slept a lot the rest of that day.
I go back on Friday for more Mom says and she also says I'll get used to it, but I don't know. I don't like water and the jets scare me, but Mom says this is how they'll make my leg all better and I believe her.
Tomorrow, Mom and I are going to speak at a school with lots of kids. We like doing that a lot, and I like all of the little kids. Well, I'll end this entry for now, but I liked telling you all about my PT stuff. I'll write again tomorrow and tell you about the adventure at the school.
bye for now everybody,

surprises

hi everybody,I've got some new things to tell you all about. Last Thursday, Mom had her last day at Physical Therapy. It was sad to say good bye to Catie, but it was fun to see her when we had the chance. Mom says she still has to do her exercises everyday, and Catie said Mom could call her if she needed anything. Mom is really happy though, that her knee is feeling much better.
This Tuesday, my brother Marlin and I both went to the vet. Marlin needed his kennel-cough shot and I have a rash on my tummy, so we went. I love the doctors there. They are always so nice to me and they give me treats and kisses and lots of pets. That day, we saw Dr. Jen. She's a very nice lady and she was gentle when she looked at us. Anyway, she was lifting my left back leg and I felt my knee-cap pop out again. It's been doing that for a while now, but in true lab fashion, I haven't let on that I've been bothered. Mom noticed something in July and I had my hips x-rayed. The x-rays came back fine then, and the orthopeedic vet who looked at me didn't find anything, but now, Dr. Jen is able to make my knee-cap pop in and out of place. She called it, a Luxating Platella.
After she told Mom what it was, they talked about me needing to have surgery. I could tell Mom was kind of worried, so I went over to her, and she gave me a hug. Jen said that Mom could talk to their orthopeedic specalist about the surgery and so she did. I wouldn't be able to do anything for two whole months andMom doesn't want that to happen.
When we got home from the vet, Mom called Guide Dogs for the Blind, and talked to a great vet there. They decided to try physical therapy before surgery, and so now Mom says that on Tuesday, we get to go to a place where another vet is to see what she has to say. Mom told me that there is lots of stuff there that could help make me feel better. I hope their is. Mom wants to do the best thing for me, and I still want to keep working for Mom so I hope this helps.
It's supposed to be cold tomorrow, but Mom and I have to get up and take the bus into Highland to go to Mom's hair-cut appointment. Mom is excited about going on the bus again, even if it is very cold out. I'm excited too because I just love taking the bus, even in winter, and even when I sit on the wet floor and my but and legs get all dirty and wet, ick!
I'll let you all know how my appointment goes next week, and about our adventures tomorrow, but right now I'm tired and I'm going to sleep now.
bye for now everybody,yawn!

What a Weekend

Hi again everyone.
Mom and I had quite a weekend. I wanted to write about it before now, but Mom wasn't feeling well yesterday and she had to fix something wrong with her screen-reader too so I couldn't until now. Hmm, that seems to happen a lot. Anyhoo, Mom and I went out to lunch with her friends on Saturday and I was a good boy when we were out. I was happy to get out because we had been cooped up for most of the week because it was cold. Saturday was warm and so we got to go outside for longer than five minutes.
After we'd gone to lunch we went to Mom's friend's house and played with the kittens that were there. I didn't like it when one of the kittens would play with my tail, but I was good and didn't bark. I did bark when the little pug dog who lives there kept jumping at me and running under my legs. Auntie Julia wanted to know why I kept barking at him and Mom said I was just telling him that I didn't like what he was doing and that I thought it wasn't polite. Mom was right, that's what I was telling him.
After that, Mom thought I could use a break from being in harness and so she took me home, fed me my dinner and then left to go have dinner while I rested. I got up on the couch like I usually do and slept with the TV on. Mom and Auntie Julia came home a few hours later and after Mom took me out for one final bathroom break, we went to bed.
The next day, Mom, Auntie Julia and their friend Jackie and I all went to a place called the Global Market in Up Town. It was fun, and I had fun sniffing all of the smells, but Mom didn't like that I was getting so distracted and not working. She pulled out my Gentle Leader and put it on me. I got sad that she'd done that, but after I'd calmed down, she took it off.
I had a great time guiding Mom around the market, but she and Auntie Julia both got upset when people tried to pet me without Mom knowing. I just ignored them like I always do and Mom was proud of me. After the long day at the market, we went home. Mom fed me and I rested while Mom and Auntie Julia went out again. It was a busy weekend and I loved every minute of it.
I can't wait until it gets warmer though, cause Mom and I are tired of the cold.

random doggy days

Hi everybody,
I'm sorry I haven't updated, but thinkgs have been really busy around here. Mom and I have still been going to PT a couple of times a week and I like that. Mom is still looking for a job, and she hopes that a job she interviewed for will work out.
The really interesting thing happened last week though. I meant to write about it before now, but I didn't have the time and Mom wouldn't let me near the computer either. Anyway, Mom's friend Dena went on vacation to Mexico and so she couldn't take her guide dog, Kaylor, with her. Mom and Auntie Julia said that they would take care of him while Dena and her family were gon so last week Kaylor came over.
We had a great time playing, and we got to play tug a lot with this great toy Kaylor had. The toy squeaked and I could even chew on it and pull on it. Mom says it's an awesome toy because it is almost indestructable. i loved playing with it, especially with Kaylor.
We went over to Mom's parents' house and Marlin, Kaylor and I all played together. I liked it most of the time, but sometimes, Kaylor and Marlin would pick on me and I would yelp so they would stop biting my ears. Mom made them stop playing so rough with me, and so they just wrestled by themselves. It was nice having another dog around for a week, and i hope we can do it again another time.
It is so cold outside, and Mom wants it to be spring. I want it to be spring too, so I can lie outside in the sun on the front steps. Mom promised me a raw meaty bone when it gets warmer outside, and I can hardly wait. Last night, Mom gave me a chicken neck her dad had saved from the roast chicken they'd eaten and I loved it. Mom gave it to me and I ate it in about 9 seconds, mmmmm I love chicken necks!
Last weekend, Mom got very sick with a sore throat. On Friday, she went to the doctor, and they said she had something called Strep Throat. I don't know what that means, but she was sick all weekend and just wanted to rest a lot. I was nice and snuggled with her. I love snuggling with Mom, and I know she loves to snuggle with me when she's sick. I think she's feeling better today though, cause she got up and did her laundry this morning.
Well, I think that's all I've got to say for now. I'm glad Mom finally let me update this blog, and so now my tens of fans can read it.
bye for now, but I'll be back soon,
woof woof!

working today

Hi guys,
today Mom got me up early so we could go to another physical therapy appointment. It was very cold last weekend and Mom only let me work for little bits especially on Saturday when it was the coldest, but the past few days have been warmer and so Mom has let me work more. I liked going to PT with Mom and I liked seeing Katy again. I was a good boy and I rested by the exercise bike Mom was working on.
When we were leaving the building after Mom was done, I heard a car behind us and I started to pull Mom out of the parkinglot and onto the curb. Mom gave me lots of pets and praise for that because she hadn't heard the car very well. She says I'm a good guide dog. I just love doing my job.
On Friday Mom has one more PT appointment and then we get to go see our friend Dena and my buddy Kaylor. I wonder if we're going to walk around a lot. I hope we can go to the mall and get a good walk in. Mom says her knee could use it and she says I could use it too. Well, it's late and I'm tired, so I think I'll slip off to
bed now. I'll write back soon though.
bye for now,
Torpedo

An Interesting Morning

Hi all,
Mom and I had a very interesting morning. We got up early and after Mom had fed and relieved me, we left to go somewhere. Mom said we were going to go to a physical therapy appointment for her. See, she fell outside last winter and hurt her knee badly. She did everything the doctor told her to do, and so she couldn't understand why her knee kept hurting. The doctor said she needed therapy to make her knee better so we were going to start that today.
It was very very cold today, only 8 above zero Mom said and so she let me walk as fast as I could without running to get inside. The cold weather makes Mom cough cause she has asthma. I got her inside though and we waited for her physical therapist to come out and get her.
Mom's therapist was named Katy and she loved me. She petted me and talked to me after Mom had given permition. I loved getting petted, but after a while, Mom said enough and made me lie down and rest by a chair while Katy looked at her knee. She made Mom lie back and do some lifting exercises and after a few minutes, I got up to check on Mom, to see what was going on.
After a while, we left the little room we were in and went into this big room with all of these machines. I didn't know what a lot of them were for, but one of them I knew. I saw a tredmill and I wanted to go on it. At guide dog school, my trainers taught me how to pull into my harness by having me walk on a tredmill. I always thought that was fun, and I wanted to do it again. Mom and Katy had a good laugh.
While Mom worked on a bike, I went and sat down in front of the bike as Katy's assistant petted me. Mom was glad someone was keeping me busy and the other lady was also very very nice.
After the bike, Mom was done and so we left. Mom's knee hurt after all of that, so she had me walk a little slower than normal, which wasn't great today cause it was soooo cold! Finally though, we got home and Mom and I took a long nap together.
Well, I'm getting tired, and I want to snuggle up in my blankets in my crate, so I'm going to end this now, but it was a very interesting day. We get to go back again next Tuesday and I can't wait to see what else they do to help Mom. Thanks for reading everyone and have a warm weekend.

the day so far

Hi everyone,
The day so far hasn't been anything special. Mom got me up late after talking on the phone to her friend Dena and then she took me out and gave me breakfast. I think we're supposed to go out later today. Mom told her friend that she has a hair cut appointment later this afternoon, and I think we're supposed to go to the store. Later tonight though, we're supposed to go over to see friends of Mom and Auntie Julia. I like these friends a lot. The man is named Tim and the woman is named Val and Tim plays with me a lot. He has these towels that I get to tug on and I love playing with him.
I hope we can do something soon because I'm bored and I want to work. I think that's it for now. Maybe Mom will let me write later on today. Thanks for reading everybody.

more on me

Hi all,
I know it's now been a really really long time since I was here last, but Mom and I were not only busy iwhth Christmas and all of that, but we had been having some issues last week and Mom wanted to work them out before she let me write on the computer.
She had been very sick with a cold last week and so Auntie Julia had begun to take me out all of the time and feed me too, and so I started thinking of her as my pack leader. Auntie Julia didn't mean for that to happen and neither did Mom, but it started to and so Mom had to figure it out first because it was making her sad, me wanting to be with Auntie Julia all of the time. After we figured it out, and after Mom started taking me out and feeding me all of the time, I realized again that she was my pack leader and it was business as usual once again.
Thanks Giving was good, and I got to see lots of my other family, like Mom's aunts and uncles and her parents and the like. Just after that holiday, we got our first snowstorm. I had fun playing in the snow with Marlin, and it kept snowing and snowing. About a week later, Mom threw a Christmas party. I had meant to blog about that, because I had done something very bad.
My friends Dena and Jason came over and Dena brought my buddy Kaylor, her golden retriever guide dog. Well, cause there were lots of people at the party, Mom and Dena decided that it would be a good idea to put both me and Kaylor in Mom's room. Well, they could hear us playing up there, but what they didn't realize was that I was insecure about my territory, and so to solve this insecurity, I peed all around Mom's room. I made sure to only pee on the wooden floor, and not the rug, but I just wanted to let Kaylor know that this was my room.
Mom didn't get mad at me though, cause she found out about it after I'd done it already, but she cleaned it up and said next time she'd put me in my crate so I wouldn't be tempted to do that again.
Christmas was good. I got to see all of my family again and after Christmas I got to see my buddy Kelton one last time. Mom and I are done with computer training and so I won't see Kelton and Debbie as much anymore, but I'm glad Mom learned a lot. I'm going to try to update more, and since things are great between me and Mom again I think she'll let me write more too. I'm sorry Bosco, I didn't get back to you until now, I haven't forgotten about you and I still read your blog. I hope Mom and I can have more working adventures to tell you about soon, cause she and I are both bored and we want to get out and work, but it supposed to get cold and snowy again tonight and tomorrow and so that kind of prevents us from going on a good walk. Anyway, maybe Mom will take me to the mall soon. The Megga-mall is great for walking in because there are lots of distractions and people and it's huge, so I get lots of exercise. Well, I hope you all enjoyed my update, and I promise to update more.
